About Us
If there is one thing we know for certain, it’s that life is way too short to settle for bad food.
MIAbites is a web-based community built by and for people who love food in Miami. Our MIAbites team of local contributors love to eat, visit with chefs, take awesome pictures and share their favorite spots. We are not just focused on reviews, but more about the community and the talent behind the Miami food and cocktail scene. By working together we can help each other get the most out of living in Miami and make each bite (or drink) count. If this sounds like your kind of project, please join us in bringing it to life. We may be building the site, but it’s your community.
In late 2018, we partnered with National non-profit, Food Rescue US to bring their app based technology of food recovery to Miami as a MIAbites community initiative to reduce food waste, help the environment by keeping food from landfills and direct transferring to local social service agencies. During COVID, Food Rescue US-Miami pivoted to fund local restaurant staff to provide free meal distributions out of partner restaurants.
Our Approach
We love to scout, celebrate and tease out the new and noteworthy and share it with you so you can then go forth and discover it for yourself. We aim to try each and every restaurant, diner and dive; we visit every bakery, farmer’s market, and fishmonger, and are thrilled when we can speak with fellow writers, bakers and chefs.
There are many of us who put in hours (and hours) a week writing, editing, photographing and producing this site. It often takes us multiple visits in order to capture and then share our experiences with our readers. If we happen upon an exceptionally bad dining experience, of which there have been many, we'll usually opt to skip reviewing the establishment altogether.
This is probably because we can't simply separate the people from the meal. There are many people behind the food we eat – from the owners, chefs, dishwashers, waitstaff – who work exceptionally hard. We want to only celebrate the wonderful community of chefs and their teams who work so hard to bring only the best to Miami dining. This doesn't give any one restaurant carte blanche, but it does make us think long and hard before putting pen to paper.
This approach to scouting and celebrating the new and noteworthy is meant to encourage readers to discover these places for themselves, not as a final word. This tends to be our point of view, and we hope you will enjoy and appreciate the many talented contributor voices on MIAbites.
Our Policy on Commenting
Comments are welcome if they are on-topic, substantive, concise, and not boring or obscene. Comments may be edited for clarity and length. We appreciate and encourage your comments on the site (read: comments rock because our posts are not meant as a final word so we look to reader’s comments and suggestions to help fuel dialogue). We only ask that you please respect fellow commenters and their opinions. Here is our rule of thumb. If you wouldn't say it at the dinner table to your grandmother, don’t say it at our dinner table here on MIAbites.
Follow Us
Some of our content may not warrant a full blown blog post. We tend to share those bite-sized portions, some delicious pictures and other event information on Twitter , Instagram and we also like to hang out on Facebook.
Thanks for helping us build this vibrant community.
